 West Mercia Police Authority is responsible for operational policing across Herefordshire, Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Worcestershire.

The Police Authority is made up of 17 Members drawn from across the force area (9 Councillors and 8 Independents, one of whom must be a Lay Justice).  In addition two Independent Members are appointed to the Standards Committee.

The Police Authority has a legal responsibility to obtain the views of local people about matters concerning the policing of the area and also their co-operation with the police in preventing crime and anti-social behaviour.  The Authority is required to take these views into account when developing policing priorities for the policing plan.
